Celebrate Derby Day at Topnotch and enjoy music performed by Billy Bratcher’s “Blue Pepper 4”. Join the fun at the social kick-off to spring in Vermont – seasoned with Southern style. Prizes awarded for Best Dressed at the Derby and picking the Kentucky Derby winning horse!
Enjoy light snacks and the snappy sounds of Blue Pepper 4 featuring Slappin’ Billy Bratcher on guitar, Alan Nichols on drums, and Don “Sugar Cone” Rose on piano. Alan toured with The Rolling Stones, recorded amazing hits in Canada, and played the lead on Broadway in the original production of Hair. As the in-house piano player at the original location back in the day, Don earned his nickname “Sugar Cone” and was granted free ice cream for life by Ben & Jerry. Billy Bratcher taught himself his music chops from listening to Elvis and reggae records. He wanted to be in a hoppin’ ska band – but settled on playing Rockabilly.
Join us for a fun day at The Roost, a comfortable, casual space that brings the outdoors in, and the indoors out. Contemporary andclassic, entirely reimagined. You can grab a seat and enjoy the tunes or play a game at the Shuffleboard Dining Bar. Gather in the patio living room – under a pergola, near a fire pit, bocce court or, lounge on oversized couches. Spring is in the air and Mint Julep specials, craft draft beer and creative cocktails will be featured.

Post time is 6:50pm when 20 horses compete in the Kentucky Derby, which is a larger field size than most horse races; where on average 8 horses race against one another. The 20 horses racing in the Kentucky Derby must first travel along the Road to the Kentucky Derby, which is a series of 35 races taking place at tracks across the country and the world. Points are awarded to the top 4 horses that finish in each of those 35 races, and the 20 horses with the most points earn a spot in the starting gate in the Kentucky Derby race. The Kentucky Derby winning purse is $2 million!
Can you pick the winning Thoroughbred? $25 guest registration for Derby Day includes three picks for Win / Place / Show from the field of 20 horses. Prizes include gift certificates for a Topnotch Resort stay, a Topnotch Spa experience, and dining at Flannel and more. Can’t narrow your choice to just three picks? Increase your odds of winning by making a donation at the event, where you can receive additional entries in thanks for supporting Copley Hospital’s Charitable Care program.
